The caatinga, present only in the Brazilian northeast, represents 12% of the national territory as a biome of dry climate and irregular rains that occur in few months to the year. The São Francisco River is fundamental to the life of this biome, crossing the Caatinga through hot and dry terrain.

The rivers that are born in the Caatinga remain dry for long periods, but in the rainy season these rivers leave the edges of the plateau traveling for long depressions and arriving at the sea or flowing in the São Francisco River.

The caatinga combines many cultures, traditional and innovative. Here is a clipping, a look at traditions that can be lost in the face of the complexity of the contemporary.
